3 Zombie TV and Movie Projects Rising in 2015

There’s no denying that zombies have gone mainstream, but that means it’s difficult to sift through the constant barrage of news about upcoming zombie TV shows, movies, and every other category of pop culture vying for your attention. Here are three picks for upcoming zombie TV shows and movies in 2015 that might deserve your discerning eye!

iZOMBIE, TV/The CW, March Premiere

_1400177571Based on the DC Comics’ Vertigo comic book series, this new TV show blends the by-now entrenched American television police procedural/mystery-solving formula with the zombie genre by introducing us to the reanimated (but still cute) Olivia “Liv” Moore (get it? Sort of like “aLIVe?”). She eats brains, but when she does she also gains access to the memories of the deceased. Time to solve crimes! A new entry in the “sentient zombie” subgenre, and quite possibly a fun time too.

MAGGIE, Film/Lionsgate, Early 2015 Premiere

maggie-film-schwarzenegger-breslinStarring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a father desperate to take care of a daughter (Abigail Breslin) slowly turning into a flesh-eating zombie. Once developed as a project for Chloe Moretz, the arrival of Schwarzenegger suggests the focus will shift from the daughter to the embattled (and presumably gun-toting, occasionally quipping) dad. With WORLD WAR Z blazing the trail for PG-13 blockbuster zombie movies, MAGGIE just might be another success if it delivers on the right blend of action, drama, and zombie madness.

THE WALKING DEAD COMPANION SERIES: “COBALT,” TV/AMC, 2015 Premiere

walking-dead-companion-series-announces-next-cast-member-photo-credit-thewalkingdead-comSet in Los Angeles at the start of the same apocalypse seen in the original THE WALKING DEAD series, this new show will follow a completely different cast of characters as they deal with the same mixture of Walkers and human enemies on the west coast. Dialing back time, it’s also expected to spend more time examining the early collapse of our culture that we missed while Rick Grimes was in his coma, and a key character seen in THE WALKING DEAD Season 1 will play some role in the proceedings. How soon before Daryl Dixon gets worked in somehow for a Fonz-like cameo? Ayy!
