Episode 11: A Few Things

Who goes there? Why, it’s Natalie, Arnold, and a trio (or duo, really) of creepy creatures confounding characters in the cold. First, an “intellectual carrot” that looks like a distant cousin of Frankenstein’s Monster terrorizes a North Pole research team in the landmark classic, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951). Then it’s a trip to the other side of the world, when an amorphous being looking for a warm place to hide at the South Pole picks Kurt Russell and friends in THE THING (1982). Finally, Natalie and Arnold subject themselves to a prequel also called THE THING (2011). After that, nobody trusts anybody now, and we’re all very tired, but you should grab some coffee, prepare your own meal out of a can, and listen to the latest chilled episode of GHOULS IN THE HOUSE!

And remember, when you’re listening to this podcast, the only ghoul in the house…is YOU!

Episode 2: Them! (1954)

Ants and locusts (well, grasshoppers) attack! In this episode, Natalie and Arnold take a look at two giant bug movies of the 1950s, THEM! (1954) – one of Arnold’s favorite films of all time in any genre – and BEGINNING OF THE END (1957), which they discovered via MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000. Featuring the brothers Aurness (James Arness, Peter Graves), the two movies share some other notable connections, so keep a can of spray handy as Natalie and Arnold take a deep dive into a New Mexico ant colony and chase those grasshoppers – sorry, locusts – all the way to Lake Michigan!
