Episode 24: Halloween 2021 Triple Haunting

Halloween! Natalie and Arnold invite you to join them for a tour of three – count them – macabre mansions just teeming with spooky denizens and incredibly busy interior design strategies. First up, it’s one of the most atmospheric examples of the haunted house genre in cinematic history with a trip to Hill House in THE HAUNTING (1963)! Next, take a trip across the pond to visit Belasco House in THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE (1973)! Then it’s time for some renovations as Hill House transforms dramatically in THE HAUNTING 1999 remake. Finally, just as an extra Halloween treat, Natalie and Arnold briefly share their thoughts on the brand-new addition to the venerable HALLOWEEN franchise, HALLOWEEN KILLS (2021)! Did we say treat? Make that trick. So anyway, stay away from spiral staircases, avoid falling crucifixes, and above all, don’t give in to mob pressure, and enjoy this very special holiday episode of GHOULS IN THE HOUSE!

And remember, when you’re listening to this podcast, the only ghoul in the house…is YOU!

Episode 7: Jamie Lee Curtis Double Feature

1980 was a busy year for Jamie Lee Curtis, with three movies in a row (all shot the previous year) cementing her status as a “Scream Queen” after her iconic turn in HALLOWEEN (1978). Having covered that film in an archive episode of our previous podcast, DOCTOR OF THE DEAD, and one of the 1980s films – THE FOG – in episode 3 of this show, Natalie and Arnold now turn their attention to the other two 1980 slashfests starring Curtis: PROM NIGHT and TERROR TRAIN! As a bonus, they also chat about the 2008 remake of PROM NIGHT, so get ready for the big night by practicing your disco moves, brushing up on your close-up magic, and rehearsing that thing you do!

Episode 3: The Fog (1980)

Natalie and Arnold visit scenic Antonio Bay to help celebrate its 100th anniversary! There’s just one problem – the town was built on a horrible lie, and a vengeful gang of seafaring zombie ghosts are returning for revenge, hidden in THE FOG (1980)! It’s time to talk about another one of our favorite “comfort food” movies and one of John Carpenter’s finest film ensembles, as well as this modern classic’s unfortunate remake, THE FOG (2005), and a somewhat similarly-themed B-movie Voodoo romp, ZOMBIES OF MORA TAU (1957). There’s seaweed and salt water everywhere, and a chill in the air, so bundle up in your favorite plaid shirt, stay out of the fog, and keep your candles lit!

From nostalgic callbacks to thematic layering, they break it all down and examine whether or not this new sequel lives up to all the hype and pays tribute to the immortal classic original from 1978. Slip on your Workrite coveralls and your vintage Shatner mask, tilt your head, and listen to this all-new DOCTOR OF THE DEAD podcast!

SPECIAL NOTE: If you haven’t seen the movie yet, this episode begins with a non-spoiler general discussion; spoiler-heavy conversation kicks in at timecode 31:21!
